The celebration of APIDA Heritage Month at the University of Wisconsin–Madison in April focused on the theme of “Ingredients, Identities, and Intersectionality,” highlighting the connection between food and identity within the APIDA community. The event emphasized the cultural diversity and richness present in the community.

According to the APIDA Heritage Month Planning Committee, "Just as ingredients come together to create unique recipes, each individual within the APIDA community has a blend of different identities, enriching our collective experience."

Events throughout the month were planned and led by UW–Madison students with support from the Multicultural Student Center, most of which revolved around the culinary theme. The Asian Pacific Islander Desi American Heritage Festival on April 6 kicked off the celebrations with street-style food and engaging activities from various APIDA cultures.

The month also featured a keynote event with New York Times Food Staff Reporter and bestselling cookbook author Priya Krishna, who explores the intersection of food and society through her work. The event included a cooking demonstration by Krishna and a moderated Q&A session, where she showcased her culinary expertise.

The 5th annual APIDA Gala on April 26 served as the final flagship event, bringing students together for a formal banquet with performances, an awards ceremony, and dancing with a live DJ. The event provided a platform for students to celebrate their heritage and showcase their talents.

Throughout the month, the APIDA Social Media & Communication Subcommittee shared recipes on the UW APIDA Student Center Instagram account, including dishes like mango lassi, Halo Halo, Vietnamese Spring Rolls, and Tteokbokki, promoting cultural exchange through food.

The festivities and activities during APIDA Heritage Month underscored the importance of community building, cultural appreciation, and the celebration of diversity at the University of Wisconsin–Madison.
